Ashanta Evans Blackwell
Ashanta Evans Blackwell is currently Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, at Teach For America and has been on TFA’s staff since 2008. Earlier in her career, Ashanta served as Assistant Inspector General for the Illinois Office of the Executive Inspector General, as a Law Clerk to Justice Fred L. Banks, Jr. of the Mississippi Supreme Court, and federal Law Clerk to the Honorable William J. Hibbler of the Northern District of Illinois. Prior to attending Vanderbilt University School of Law, she taught fourth grade in her hometown of New Orleans as a Teach For America Corps Member. She is a 1995 graduate of Mount Holyoke College and has served as a Trustee for the College, and on MHC’s Alumnae Association Board of Directors. Ashanta has also served as a board member for several other organizations.
Ashanta has lived in Memphis since 2010 with her husband and two children.
